Why Shops Make the Switch

Safety. Speed. Precision.

Three principles built into every Magswitch tool — and the reason fabrication shops, welding operations, and shipyards move more work across the same floor with the crew they already have.

Safety

Grip That Doesn't Let Go

Switchable magnets eliminate the pinch points and manual strain that come with hooks, chains, and clamps. Power on, power off — with fail-safe holding force that stays locked even in harsh conditions. Magnetic ground clamps add a secure electrical connection, and because the magnet switches off, your workspace stays clear of debris.

Safer, Cleaner Operations
Speed

Setup in Seconds, Not Minutes

No fiddling with clamps. No tacking on ground tabs you'll grind off later. Position the part, twist the knob, and start welding. Repositioning mid-job takes seconds instead of a full teardown — which means less fatigue over a shift and more billable hours out of the same crew.

Precision

Square the First Time, Every Time

A rock-solid magnetic hold keeps parts from shifting under the torch, so joints land where you laid them out. True 45°, 90°, and multi-angle positioning means consistent results across every piece in the run — and dramatically less rework.

Squares That Improve Accuracy
Safety protects the crew+ Speed protects the schedule+ Precision protects the margin

Why Magswitch

Magnetic Workholding That Replaces C-Clamps and Tack Welds

Magswitch welding and fabrication tools use a mechanical on/off switch to control up to 1,000+ pounds of holding force, with no cords, no batteries, and no continuous power draw. Turn the knob, the magnet grips; turn it back, the part releases clean.

From squaring up angle iron to grounding a welding table to clamping a jig fixture, these tools cut setup time on nearly every job in the shop, and they hold their strength for decades of daily use.

How It Works

Three Steps. No Learning Curve.

Every Magswitch welding and fabrication tool works the same simple way, no matter which one is on your bench.

1
Place & Twist On
Set the tool on flat or round steel and rotate the knob. Full holding force engages instantly — no ramp-up, no waiting.
2
Work With Confidence
Weld, cut, grind, or fixture with a rock-solid hold and zero continuous power draw. The grip does not fade over the course of a shift.
3
Twist Off & Move On
Release cleanly with no residual magnetism left on the part. Wipe off any debris and reposition for the next piece in seconds.
The Difference

Traditional Fixturing vs. the Magswitch Way

See why shops are replacing slow C-clamps, tack welds, and improvised grounding setups.

Traditional Fixturing
Position, tighten, and adjust a clamp for every single piece
Tack welds and ground tabs need to be ground off after the job
Fixed workholding forces the job to come to the tool
One clamp or jig usually covers one angle
Hunting the shop floor for a ground location
The Magswitch Way
Place the tool and twist the knob — full grip in seconds
Twist off and wipe clean, no residual marks or grinding
Portable magnetic tools go wherever the job requires
Multi-angle tools cover 45°–135° in one unit
Ground clamps ground instantly on flat or round steel
The Magswitch Advantage

Built for Every Bench, Booth, and Jig

Switchable electro-permanent magnets outperform traditional clamps, tack welds, and single-pole magnets across the metrics that matter on a shop floor.

On/Off, No Power Draw
A simple mechanical twist of the knob engages or fully releases the magnetic field. No electricity, no batteries, no residual pull left behind on the part.

True 90-Degree Machining
Every MagSquare and jig is precision machined for accurate angles, so your fixtures and fabricated assemblies come out square the first time.

Faster Setup, Every Job
Skip the clamps, tack welds, and grinding away weld tabs. Place, switch on, weld or cut, switch off, move to the next piece.

Stays Clean
Because the magnet is off between uses, tools do not collect metal shavings, grinding dust, or debris the way always-on magnets do.

One Tool, Many Jobs
Fabricate angles, pull corners, ground a weld, hold a jig, or build a custom fixture — the same tool adapts across welding, fabrication, and workholding tasks.

Decades of Holding Force
Neodymium and samarium cobalt magnet materials lose a fraction of a percent of strength per year, so these tools hold their rated force for the life of the shop.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Magswitch welding and fabrication tools.

How does the on/off magnet switch work?

A twist of the built-in knob mechanically rotates internal magnets to either channel their field into the base plate (magnet on) or redirect it away from the working surface (magnet off). No electricity is involved, so there is no power source to plug in, charge, or maintain.

Will these tools leave residual magnetism on my steel?

When switched fully off, the magnetic field is redirected away from the work surface, so the tool releases cleanly without leaving the part magnetized the way some always-on magnets can.

What is the difference between a MagSquare and a MagJig?
  • MagSquare: multiplane grip on five sides, machined at 90 degrees, for squaring angles and general fixturing
  • MagJig: downward-pressure clamping with a standoff, designed to be built into your own jigs and fences
Do the ground clamps work on any welding surface?

The magnetic ground clamps attach to flat or round steel surfaces and ground instantly once switched on, eliminating the need to search for or fabricate a separate ground location. An optimized fin design also helps keep the clamp running cooler during extended use.

Can these tools be used near welding heat?

Yes, when matched to the right application. Magswitch offers tools built with different magnet material grades so holding force is maintained even in the elevated temperatures common around welding and cutting operations. Contact our team if you need guidance on a specific high-heat application.

How much holding force do I need?

It depends on material thickness, orientation, and whether the load is static or subject to vibration or shock from grinding and cutting. As a general guide, thinner sheet and lighter fixturing work well with the smaller MagSquare 165 or MagJig 95, while structural steel and heavier plate call for the MagSquare 1000. Our team can help you size the right tool for your material.

What's covered under warranty, and can I return a tool?

Every Magswitch tool carries a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects (normal wear and misuse are not covered). If something isn't right, our support team issues a return merchandise authorization and takes it from there — just reach out within 48 hours of receiving your order to start the process.

Can I build a custom fixture around these tools?

Yes. MagJigs in particular are designed to be dropped into a shop-built fixture: drill a mounting hole, insert the MagJig, and it provides switchable downward-pressure clamping. MagSquares include pre-tapped mounting holes on multiple sides for the same purpose.

How long do these magnetic tools last?

Magswitch tools use high-quality neodymium and samarium cobalt magnet materials known for long-term durability, with only a fraction of a percent of magnetic strength lost per year. With normal shop use, tools are built to hold their rated force for decades — backed by 65+ patents in switchable magnetic technology and two decades of engineering since the company's founding in 2005.

Do you offer volume pricing or custom solutions?

Yes. Our team works with fabrication shops, welding operations, and shipyards on volume orders and custom-engineered magnetic tooling. Reach out through the contact form below to start the conversation.
