Universal Robots has introduced Gen 7, its next-generation platform for industrial automation and physical AI—and Magswitch Technologies is proud to be part of the ecosystem bringing its capabilities to real-world manufacturing applications.

Announced in September 2026, the new Universal Robots Gen 7 platform represents an end-to-end redesign spanning the controller, teach pendant, tool flange and software environment. At the center of the platform is PolyScope X, designed to provide manufacturers and integrators with expanded connectivity and a modern environment for deploying automation applications.

For Magswitch, the new platform creates an opportunity to make magnetic material handling even easier to integrate and deploy.

SmartMagGrip E30 Meets Gen 7

The Magswitch SmartMagGrip E30 is an electrically actuated magnetic end-of-arm tool designed for handling ferrous materials in collaborative robotic applications.

Now compatible with Universal Robots’ g-Series and PolyScope X, the SmartMagGrip E30 combines Magswitch magnetic technology with the power, connectivity and simplified integration of UR’s latest platform.

The E30 draws its required 24 VDC, 1 A supply directly from the tool flange, eliminating the need for a separate external power supply or additional power cable routed along the robot arm.

This integration helps reduce components and cabling while giving manufacturers a flexible magnetic gripping solution for applications ranging from thin sheet handling to thicker steel plate.

One Magnetic Tool. More Possibilities.

One of the key advantages of the SmartMagGrip E30 is Variable Field Output (VFO). Instead of operating at only full magnetic strength, VFO allows magnetic strength to be adjusted from 0–100%.

That flexibility allows one E30 to handle a wide range of ferrous materials. For de-stacking applications, for example, the magnetic field can be reduced to pick a single thin blank from a stack and increased when handling thicker material—all without changing the end-of-arm tool.

The SmartMagGrip E30 also incorporates SMART part-present sensing. Through a simple learning routine, the system can identify the correct part signature and detect conditions such as missed picks or double picks before the robot continues its cycle.

Together, these capabilities provide manufacturers with:

  • Variable magnetic strength: Adjust field output from 0–100% for different material thicknesses and applications.
  • Integrated part sensing: Detect missed picks and double picks before material moves through the process.
  • No compressed air: Electric actuation eliminates pneumatic lines and associated air consumption.

Integrated Control Through PolyScope X

The SmartMagGrip E30 is supported through a dedicated URCap for PolyScope X, bringing magnetic gripping functions directly into the UR programming environment.

From the teach pendant, users can control the essential E30 workflow: set the magnetic field, pick the part and verify the pick.

This integration makes it easier for manufacturers and integrators to incorporate Magswitch magnetic gripping into their Universal Robots applications while keeping setup and control within the familiar PolyScope X environment.

For manufacturers and integrators, the goal is straightforward: less integration complexity between the robot and the tooling performing the work.

Built for Real-World Ferrous Material Handling

The SmartMagGrip E30 gives manufacturers a compact magnetic EOAT option for a broad range of applications, including bin picking, sheet de-stacking, pick-and-place, welding and fabrication, clamping and positioning.

Because the tool is electrically actuated, there are no pneumatic lines to route or maintain. Because magnetic field strength is adjustable, manufacturers can handle different material thicknesses with the same tool. And because sensing is integrated into the E30, the robot can verify the pick before continuing the process.

The E30 provides a maximum breakaway force of 552.3 N / 56.3 kgf, while weighing approximately 1 kg. It operates on 24 VDC and draws 1 A at 24 VDC.

Together with Gen 7 and PolyScope X, these capabilities create a streamlined approach to deploying magnetic automation for ferrous material handling.
