R&D Engineering Intern

Department: Engineering – R&D
Level/Salary Range: $15 per hour
Job Category: 25-40 hours per week, Summer Internship (3 months)
Location: Lafayette, Colorado

Magswitch is currently developing the cutting edge magnetic tooling products for the industrial automation environment while still innovating manual tools in the welding and woodworking industries. Current projects for industrial automation focus on electric tools with Industry 4.0 principles associated with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) providing rich real time feedback to robots and PLCs to improve automated processes. https://magswitch.com/

Magswitch is looking to select 2-3 candidates to assist in prototype design, assembly of mechanical and electrical components, testing of prototype/pre-production tools, and documentation.

Requirements:

· Written and verbal communication skills
· Critical thinking required to identify and troubleshoot problems as issues arise
· Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes
· CAD Experience –  SolidWorks preferred
· Mechanical and/or electrical design and/or integration of magnetic circuits, sealed systems, electric motors, gearboxes, pneumatic actuators, hydraulic actuators, and others.
· Systems: Solidworks 2018, ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Maxwell
· Develop standard operating procedures for assembly of new products
· Maintain and improve documentation of product data
· Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of broken / failed tools
· Fine attention to detail during assembly work –  Hydraulic Press, Soldering, Drilling, dremeling, and other minor modification work when necessary
· Project management and ownership of responsibilities involving project timelines, budgets, and resources
· Use of standard electronics lab test equipment
· Basic microcontroller and programming experience

This position has the potential for conversion to full time employment upon graduation. Magswitch also has a special interest in students with a second language to move to the country of the additional language upon graduation if Magswitch has a focus in that location.

Packaging Engineering Intern

Magswitch is looking to select 2-3 candidates to assist in the New Product Development and Continuous Improvement Engineering departments with Packaging Engineering. Candidates will assist in prototype and production packaging design, development of packaging testing, testing of packaged tools, and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Critical thinking required to identify and troubleshoot problems as issues arise
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • CAD Experience – SolidWorks preferred
  • Develop packaging testing procedures for new and existing products
  • Maintain and improve documentation of packaging testing data
  • Project management and ownership of responsibilities involving project timelines, budgets, and resources
  • Work cross-functionally with domestic and global Engineering and Marketing teams to design packaging that fulfills product and merchandising needs
  • Work to develop packaging alternatives that help support cost reduction initiatives
  • Develop & maintain global awareness of competitor product offerings and emerging design technologies in the packaging industry
